On Tuesday the 22nd of May, accompanied by Mrs McLatchie, Miss Murray, Mr Clarkson, Mr White and myself, 50 second and third year pupils visited Loch Lomond National Park. The purpose of this visit was to introduce pupils to land use conflicts and to become familiar with fieldwork techniques that will help them in their Standard Grade Geography exam.
Pupils were split into two groups. In the morning one group watched a presentation by rangers in the national park and took part in a quiz. The other group walked to a nearby beach and took fieldsketches of glaciated upland areas, including Ben Lomond, the Luss Hills and Conic Hill. The groups then swapped over. We stopped for lunch for an hour in Loch Lomond shores. In the afternoon we completed a gentle walk where pupils could observe many of the features and attractions that they had learned about earlier in the day, for example, the Maid of the Loch tourist boat (we did not go on the boat) and Balloch Castle Park.
We were very impressed by all the pupil’s effort and behaviour on the trip and look forward to future geography trips- well done!
Miss Kelt
